I have always enjoyed baseball. I really like the live games the most. There is something about a hotdog and beer at a game. Plus, you are right there when it happens. I love the cheering and interaction of the crowd. I am often swept up in the moment. I love that feeling.
Today, I experienced a different first time. I went to the opening day ceremonies of Little League Baseball with Zach. It was so much fun. I went because he needed to be there for pictures and clinics and so forth, but I absolutely got into the whole thing. Zach was with his team a good part of the morning, and I had invited Jake, Zach's friend to join us. Then I thought how much fun Jeff's kids might have, so I told him to come and bring the kids. Actually, I ended up agreeing to have all four kids for the afternoon. I know what you are thinking. Me, four kids, at a "fun day" - yes! I haven't laughed so much in a very long time. Jeff's kids are so awesome, and everyone hit it off immediately.
They wanted me to watch them jump, then flip, then they pretended there were Spiderman and Superman. They ran races, ate hotdogs, played catch, played in the park, ran some more races, more bouncy houses, more, more, more. My cheeks hurt by the time we left the park. It felt exhilarating.
Then we all came back to the house to play the Wii, more catch and so on. They were already making plans for the rest of the day when Jeff came to pick them up. We were all sad to break up the fun.
It is strange for me to admit how much fun a house full of kids can be. What is happening to me?
