Where is Robin Hood when you need him?

Let's talk budget.

I want to see a budget that cuts spending. Do I want to see a budget that cuts spending for Medicaid and Medicare, no. Do I want programs meant to aid the poor stripped of funding, no. What I want to see is a plan where those programs are monitored. Where people who are given aid are required to meet certain standards. I am not talking about the number of children per household either. If I had my way, there would be a limit on how many children each family could have.

There are those who think placing restrictions such as this would limit personal freedoms, but when the number of people in the US continues to escalate, when those under the poverty line continue to increase, it is impossible to produce enough food, gas and shelter for everyone. The supply will never meet the demand until the demand at least remains the same. The resources needed in order to supply necessary goods to those already populating the planet already exceeds what we, as a society, can produce. Because of this constant growth, the money needed to support the population also increases, and we do not have it.

No mincing words here. We are broke - the government, the individual, the businesses. Just today I read where the Philadelphia Orchestra may have to declare bankruptcy. Now I guess you are not so worried about an orchestra, but it is great institutions such as this who are truly suffering. I love to go to cultural events. I love to support the arts, but with so much else needing to be paid, like rent, food for a 9 year old, and taxes, how can I justify such a frivolous expenditure?

I want to be able to support the arts. I want to be able to do things outside of what is necessary. But I feel that paying my bills and saving the rest is paramount to being able to survive on down the line. I know this is a sore subject, but why not cut some military spending? I do not mean to cut any of the funds that should be allocated for paying those who serve in the branches of the military. They should be paid first. I am talking about cutting spending to programs that have failed to yield anything positive. I am talking about spending on weapons, biological warfare and so forth.

Perhaps I am naive in my perspective. I don't care. If you make more money, then you should pay more money. No tax cuts for you - sorry.
