Time for some symbolic bra burning!

Joseph Campbell
I have to take a minute and rant about the Governor of Texas, one I did not elect or re-elect, one that I am currently stuck with regardless of what an idiot he is. He actually said he could not wait for the "abortion" legislation to come across his desk! Really! How about all the laws now in either the House or Senate which will limit a woman's rights even more than they already are? Is he ready to blanket-approve those as well?

There is this misconception in our society now which seems to say "women are equal to men in every way, and we are okay if you take some rights back." NOT! I am up in arms today because I decided to read the newspaper first thing in the morning, which I should never do. Sitting in the doctor's office, waiting for Zach, no breakfast, no coffee, feeling a little nauseous, I read about the Senate in Texas passing that ridiculous sonogram legislature.

I would not get an abortion. That is MY personal choice, for my own body, for my own reasons. But to tell those wanting an abortion that they have to see a sonogram and every detail of the fetus as well as wait 24 hours from that time to then have the abortion is tyrannical! Who the Hell do these politicians think they are? A woman's body is her body, first off. Yes, young girls may need guidance, but that is the responsibility of the PARENT and not the government!

Second, making the decision of having an abortion is normally not one done on the fly or taken lightly, so to insist that the woman take an in-depth look at the fetus is cruel. Might some of those women change their minds out of guilt? Absolutely. Will it magically make those same women good mothers? Hell No! What it will do is make women carry children they do not want, creating more neglected juvenile delinquents who are placed somewhere in the system whether it be in prison or in a foster home. There is already a population that exceeds our possible supply-to-demand production; why would the government force this unnecessary act upon already fragile women?

Because they want to be in total control of everything. The government has NO right to interject its narrow ideologies into the realm of the individual. I am done being told what to do. I follow the laws. I try to make good decisions. I hope that I am becoming a better person every day and that I inspire others to do the same. BUT, I do it based on my own individual ideas, beliefs and constructs - not ones given to me by some sad little Governor who can't seem to make a decision based on his own mind.

Wake up women! We are being put back in the kitchen, being told when and how to have a child, being shown the proverbial domestic door. Next we will be asked to wear pantyhose and walk a foot behind the male boss if we are even selected for open jobs. Well, I am NOT going back there. I am pulling out my Betty Friedan t-shirt, burning my bra and protesting! Anyone with me?
