valentine a palooza

Valentine's day makes me crazy. It is all about how many valentines you can give to how many people. I mean, seriously, does there have to be a day to remind you to love your Valentine? And your Valentine is who? Your lover, that's who; not your brother or friend or child. Just that one person who sets your heart on fire and makes you feel like doing cartwheels.

My friend Jeff and I talked about how crazy it is that our kids bring valentines to school. What kind of a message are we putting out their them? Why does everyone you know need a valentine? Damn I forgot the mailman today.

The day has become so commercialized just like all the other so called holidays. I mean, who deemed the significant observance of this day?

Hallmark?

I do not expect gifts on this day. I do not expect some grandiose gesture that will somehow speak for an entire year of I love yous. It is not like there is some machine-gun-wielding-cupid-shooting-arrows-in-men's-butts-patrol. Men and women should show how they feel about their significant others without the promise of a gift. I want my lover to tell me he loves me every day of my life. I am not conventional in any way. I just want to be loved always and not one day out of the year.
