A Conferencing We Go ...

My friend Gerri and I are presenting at the TYCA-SE Conference tomorrow in Greensboro, NC, so I am trying to get all the kinks out before I put everything together on my presentation wiki.
(I stole this picture of Gerri from one of her sites hee hee.)

And then I started thinking about all the work I have put into so many professional development pieces this semester and last, so much work into all 8-10 classes I teach, and wondered where my life had gone. I have been in New Bern 7 months and have no real friends. It is strange because I usually make friends fast (no hubris intended).

Then I thought about the lack of work my students have been completing and their endless excuses. I understand that a good majority of my students are non-traditional, returning students, with jobs, kids and aging parents, but I completed my undergraduate and Master's degrees working 2-3 jobs, living paycheck to paycheck, with other assorted issues, but I did it without excuses, and that was only in 2003. If I had to drop or make a lower grade, I took responsibility for my actions.

I think that the New Generation of students are not only apathetic in their pursuit of an education, but they also feel as though they are entitled to an education, that they do not have to work for it, and that someone should be to blame for their failure, and they have decided that it is me.
