So much has happened since my last post. Bottom line: I got my dream job.
I completed the spring semester after teaching 10 classes (half online). I then traveled to Texas to care for my nephew while my brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Terri, went on vacation in Jamaica. My nephew, Landry, is 2-years-old and wants to do everything himself. Needless to say, I was SO glad to pick Billy and Terri up at the airport a week later.
That was on Sunday and on Monday I flew back to NC to finish packing. I missed my first flight and connection, arriving at 3:30pm. I then went out to get some things for cleaning and some dinner only to realize I had locked myself out of the house. 3 hours and 40.00 later, I fell asleep on the couch. Monday has been a waste.
Tuesday comes along with some family. Mrs. H and Sarah came to help me pack and move. They worked from the time they arrived until late into the evening, in the rain, and without complaining. They even stayed into the next afternoon to help me get everything done. I am blessed beyond words to have them in my life. I can never thank them enough for all their work and care. I go back to the hotel, do some work and sleep. Up at 6am, more rain.
Back to the apartment to pick up the cats and my luggage. The bathroom needs to be cleaned, the refrigerator emptied, and OH - some wine glasses remained in the cupboard. Argh!
9:30am - finally leaving the driveway. Goodbye NC. Hello 10 hour drive with cats to Florida. Ninja rode the entire trip on my bookbag and shoulder, slumped over, barely hanging on. I am not sure how he did it. Nunchuck was out of sorts the whole time, moving from passenger seat to my lap, on and off the entire trip. 3 stops for gas and other necessities, the cats continue to behave.
8:30pm - cats and I pull into the vet clinic to board the cats for the night. The next day to the Smitten Kitten. The cats are stressed to the max. I feel terrible.
The thing that makes all of this worth it, comical and well, just one big journey, is that I have accepted a tenured-track full-time teaching position at the University of Hawaii Maui College, beginning this fall. I have wanted this job since I decided to pursue teaching as my career. There is something about Maui that I absolutely love. I have lived and visited many different States and Countries, but Hawaii has always been my first choice. I cannot express to you how I feel about finally being able to travel to Maui and know that I get to stay forever.
I will hang out my vacancy sign soon for all of those who wish to visit. Call first as I may be on the beach. I will continue to post and do so regularly, updating as the day draws near.
