I have always been against owning a gun, carrying a gun or permitting stupid people from even looking at a gun. While I still think there should be some kind of intelligence test administered to those who apply for a gun permit (like is their name spelled correctly), I have now decided to purchase a weapon.
Maybe it is the developing maternal instinct to protect my cub, but I think I am ready to take that next step. I have a small gun that was passed down to me from my grandad, but it is stored in another state and not registered. I kept it for sentimental value alone. Now, I need something more than my knife and bat.
Although I originally wanted a .45, I now feel I want a shotgun. I cannot say that I will ever need it, but I do know that if someone breaks into my home, he or she better be ready to face me and the barrel of my shotgun. The sound of loading the ammo with a shotgun is distinct. My hope is that whomever hears it will hightail it out of my residence. But in the case that he or she is too stupid to take the hint, I am prepared to shoot the intruder. No one is going to harm anyone I love. Period.
My brother has a .45, 9 mil and a Mossberg shotgun (seen above). He is becoming a gun enthusiast. I just want something to put the fear of God into whomever walks into my house uninvited.
Before all my friends start screaming at me, know that I have gone over safe words and all contingency plans with Zach. He is clear where he should be in the event that I need to use the shotgun.

A shotgun is a good choice for home defense; it is easy to use, and can be very effective. Just be certain to get a bit of instruction (possibly from your brother), and get in some practice with it; it will not help you if you are not familiar and comfortable with it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your decision and choice.
Thanks Bob. Sound advice. Will post an update soon. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of people out there who understand how you feel. You might try Breda, who at one time was intimidated by firearms.
ReplyDeleteYhanks Bob. I checked out The Breda Fallacy and LOVE it. Some girl power and a great new favorite blog.
