I have to get on my soapbox for today.
I am an advocate for less laws telling the individual what to do and think and more teaching of common sense. However, I am a huge supporter of the DUI laws. I have been unable to stop watching the video of MT Rep. Alan Hale (bar owner) in his 20 second or so speech about how the DUI Laws should be elliminated because they are "destroying a way of life." So a way of life in Montana is to drive around half crocked? He further states that the laws are causing people to stay home, not visit local taverns and bars, which in turn, ruins the economy. Boo hoo.
There are other ways of boosting the local economy without advocating drunk driving. Hale went on to say that there are mostly open roads in MT, which is true, and a drunk driver might encounter two people on the road at most. I had to laugh when someone posted to Montana Cowgirl Blog how sad it would be for those two, lone, unsuspecting drivers. It is as if Hale believes it is a minimal risk, drunk drivers. Is he actually listening to what he is saying?
Hale is one of those politicians who I cannot see how he got elected. I am sure he was just as big a blockhead then as he is now. What motivates people to choose this type of person to be their voice in the government? Don't people take some time and research the candidates? I know I do. Even then, sometimes my choices end up sounding like imbeciles. But still I try to make the best choice for me, my community and my country - as backwards as it is. I do not want a bunch of buffoons running the government (or at least not anymore than are currently serving).
I am still trying to wrap my brain around the proposed Congressional budget cuts that would take money from the poor (literally) and give it to defense spending. But that's a topic for another day.
