Texas GOP Declares: "No More Teaching of 'Critical Thinking Skills' in Texas Public Schools"
First of all, Are we, as educators, really willing to allow "the man" to say what we can teach? They will have to arrest me in order to keep me from teaching critical thinking skills to my students. I push them to be creative, active thinkers. I want a future generation who will make a difference, seek change, and make independent decisions.
How can the Texas GOP (I teach in this state by the way) actually believe that the public will stand for a curriculum that dictates that students will be told what to believe, what to learn, what to achieve. How is that freedom? Conformity is not the answer. Perhaps creating puppets will allow the powers that be to control the population, breeding generations of humans who walk and talk according to predetermined ideas. I will not stand for it; will you?
