Supply and Demand

BP OIL Platform
As we work together to reduce our deficits,” Mr. Obama said in a letter to Congressional leaders last week, “we simply can’t afford these wasteful subsidies.” Mr. Obama says the money saved should be used to finance more research into clean energy alternatives — a proposal he has made in his last two budget requests that has largely been ignored. The New York Times

So I have been thinking about the oil crisis a lot lately. Nobody seems to want to really think of good solutions or alternatives to alleviate the $4/gallon mess we are in at the moment. I know I am tired of paying more than $50/tank each time I fill up. I don't even have one of the thousands of SUVs driving around the DFW area. If I see one more Hummer, I might really take out a bat and start smashing things. Who needs that big of a vehicle. They do not even fit in most parking spaces today.

The point is that Americans in particular are greedy, self-absorbed individuals who want more. No matter how much one person has, it is not enough. I have been guilty of this obsession in the past, but I have come to realize that all those things are just that THINGS. They don't amount to much other than larger credit card bills.

Yesterday in an editorial "Drill, Baby, Drill" some sense was finally being made of the problem at hand and some real solutions were being proposed. They funny part is that those same solutions and "suggestions" were already offered up by Obama. Now I do not always agree with his politics; in most cases I want to argue with him like other politicians, but in this case, he is correct, and we, as a people, have to make smarter choices, be proactive and stop being so selfish. Something has to give, and it is not the drilling of coastal waters.
